Summer Greetings Newsletter: Memoir Release & Upcoming Event
Dear Friends,
We are thrilled to announce that Sachiyo Ito’s memoir, Life Journey through Japanese Dance, is now available through Barnes & Noble. In this beautifully written volume, she reflects on her training, her move to New York, and more than five decades of performing and teaching around the world. The memoir offers thoughtful insights into cultural differences — and the unity that can be found beyond cultural and racial boundaries — while sharing moving stories from the productions she created and the people she encountered throughout her long career. She also traces the evolution of her artistry from traditional forms to universal themes, transforming the book into a meditation on life, identity, and what it means to be human.

Discover Nihon Buyo, the refined, classical dance of Japan. A 400-year-old dance form rooted in Kabuki theater, it has come to represent Japanese elegance and tradition. Join us and learn the art of storytelling through graceful, precise movements and fan techniques. Perfect for fans of Japanese culture, history, or anyone looking to learn a unique, artistic, and meditative form of movement. No experience needed! All ages and abilities are welcome.
While traditionally taught in yukata, you are welcome to attend in cosplay or western clothes! We will provide dance fans to practice with, as well as a limited number of yukata to try on. Please bring a pair of socks as this class will be taught without shoes.
We would like to thank you all for supporting our spring performance season this year, which would not have been successful without your help! We loved performing for you at Hanami Nights at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden - it was such a lovely evening of dancing beneath the cherry blossoms in the light of the full moon.
Please watch a short video of our performance here!
Please stay tuned for further newsletters! In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer!
Best wishes,
Sachiyo Ito and Company
